With the UK ETS baseline exercise now closed, focus shifts to the next verification cycle.
At the end of June, the UK ETS baseline data collection exercise came to an end. All current UK ETS participants and Ultra Small Emitters (USEs) were required to submit a baseline data report.
The 30th of June deadline also applied to improvement reports for installations, which includes both annual improvement reports for full participants and any potential improvements highlighted by the verifier during the 2024 verification cycle.
With these submissions now closed, attention shifts towards the imminent verification cycle. We are now over halfway through the year – and operators are expected to continuously monitor their installations against their permit and notify the Regulator or vary the permit where necessary. Currently the online METS system is undergoing maintenance and operators are unable to submit variations to their permit. Recent communications from the Regulator suggest that this functionality will return in the coming weeks.
The Swan Energy team are already preparing half-year emissions reports for our ETS clients and readying each installation for 2025 compliance. Over the course of the summer, we will be engaging with verifiers to book site visits which will generally take place in the last quarter of this year.
