With the new tax year beginning on April 1st 2025, each of the UK ETS Regulators updated their charging scheme for operators. This includes the ongoing annual subsistence charge payable per installation and other one off processing charges, such as permit variations.
Although these changes have been in effect for several months, operators may have only recently started to receive these invoices for the current year’s subsistence, with some noticing a substantial increase on the previous year. For example, annual registry fees for sites in England have risen 150% from last year and subsistence for Welsh sites in receipt of free allocation increased by up to 300%.
These changes were consulted upon separately in late 2024 by each devolved UK ETS Regulator and will vary depending which country of the UK your installation is located.
