We’ve just completed one of our busiest UK ETS emissions reporting period to date, and this short update shares some key achievements and looks to the future.
UK ETS Emissions Reporting
This year, the team submitted over 90 verified Annual Emissions Reports, with just over half relating to full participants in the UK ETS and the remainder covering hospital and small‑emitter opt‑outs. We also submitted a number of verified Annual Activity Level Reports for several of our full‑scheme clients.
Our client base continues to span a wide range of industries – from distilleries and food manufacturers to hospitals, sewage works, chemical plants, and heat and power generation sites. While most of our reporting sits within England, Scotland, and Wales, we also submitted EU ETS reports for clients in Ireland.
EU ETS and Biomethane Integration In Ireland
A particular highlight this year was our work in Ireland, where the team supported clients in integrating biomethane into their EU ETS reporting for the first time. This involved close collaboration with importers, Gas Networks Ireland, and the Irish EPA to ensure that the Proof of Sustainability documentation could be used appropriately within annual reports.
SECR Reporting
Alongside ETS work, we completed a number of Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reports (SECR) for clients whose financial year aligns with the calendar year. These covered a similarly broad range of industries, with a few more still in progress.
New Clients & Advisory Work
It’s been a strong year for Swan, with many longstanding clients continuing to trust us with their carbon compliance needs, and a healthy number of new clients joining us. Among these were a large power station and several gypsum plants.
We also expanded our advisory work, supporting a large brick manufacturer across multiple installations, a paper manufacturer, and clients developing heat networks across several English cities.
Verification Work
In addition to our consultancy services, Swan employees — acting on behalf of an accredited ETS verifier — verified seven Annual Emissions Reports this year, covering installations from distilleries and hospitals to heat networks.
Looking Ahead
We’re already well underway with the 2026 reporting year. The second stage of baselining and free allocation is now open, and like many in the sector, we’re eagerly awaiting the release of the 2027–2030 benchmarks. Later in the year, we’ll also begin our first ESOS site visits of 2026. In the meantime, keep an eye out for more updates from us on baselining, Energy from Waste, and other key developments in the world of carbon compliance reporting.
