Some Swan Energy’s clients are carrying out their Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) obligations in-house, however they have requested that we offer a validation service to give them some peace of mind and reassurance. Therefore, we have decided to offer an independent validation service that will leave people feeling 100% confident in sending their final SECR reports to Directors and including them in their organisation’s financial statements.
What is included in this SECR validation service?
As part of this service, Swan will:
- Review all data and data sources included in your report
- Review all calculation factors and emissions calculations
- Ensure your chosen methodology is robust
- Highlight any potential misstatements
- Provide support to any areas we feel are below standard
- Compile a report that details our data and emissions validation exercise
- Provide a statement of our findings in the context of SECR regulation
Why do I require this service?
Although there is no current requirement in the legislation, current SECR Guidance recommends that having your report independently assured is best practice. Independent assurance of the accuracy, completeness and consistency of energy use, GHG emissions data and energy efficiency actions is encouraged in the guidance as it is beneficial to both internal decision-making and for external stakeholders.
Who is this service for?
This service is for those who have carried out their SECR obligations in-house and wish it to be checked over by an experienced team of energy specialists. Here at Swan, we have over 55 years of experience in compliance with mandatory and voluntary energy legislation, and have external EU ETS verifiers working on our team. A regular part of our work is meticulous internal and external auditing for a range of clients.
Is there anything else I should know?
Swan Energy’s expertise lie in emissions and energy reporting. Once we have checked your energy and emissions data, your financial auditor is obliged to check your Director’s Report and ensure there are no material misstatements and that it is consistent with your financial statements.
