Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) was introduced by the UK Government in April 2019, intending it to play a key role in highlighting how an individual organisation is actively working towards a greener future.
The scheme helps businesses to quantify and report on their overall environmental impact. It also highlights energy efficient actions implemented to target reducing energy usage and carbon emission to be highlighted.
For organisations that meet qualifying criteria, a report needs to be submitted with their annual financial reports to Companies House.
The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting Regulations apply to quoted companies of any size, ‘large’ unquoted companies, and ‘large’ limited liability partnerships (LLPs). The criteria for ‘large’ is if your organisation meets at least two out of the following three criteria within a single year: a turnover of £36 million or more, a balance sheet total of £18 million or more and 250 or more employees.
